River Bottom
Oklahoma City does not have any good off road areas that are readily
accessible (legally) in the immediate area. However, there are other river bottoms
in central Oklahoma where we can play around without any problems such as the South
Canadian river a few miles south of Oklahoma City around Lexington OK. Most of
the rivers in our area are shallow and sandy except when there have been recent rains.
However, they still can hide deep pools and quicksand that you must watch out for.
At left is Kelly Wilkey testing the sandy ledges near a big pool of water. Even though
the rivers are sandy, they can build up large sand ledges along areas where water had
eroded a previously built up sand bar.
At right Dale demonstrates how deep the water can be. He has an ARB
snorkel on his Jeep and backed out of this hole with no problem.
Flat sand beds offer an opportunity for some “sand drag” races. Just
line up and run for fun. No Trailchaser has a real sand drag vehicle but it is fun anyway.
Mud....You bet....got that too. Lots of opportunity to get a helping hand.
Obviously Doug should have attached that tow strap BEFORE he dove into the mud hole.
