Heading off the trailhead many of us stopped at the local car wash to de-mud (as best we could) our vehicles. It was here that the news first filtered down that we had lost the usual place for the annual Pot Luck Supper. Seems due to some silly miscommunications somewhere along the line Steve was miles out of town thinking we wouldn’t need his shop this year for the pot luck supper.
While this might seem like an unfortunate setback, this group went into four-wheel high and started coming up with alternatives. “We could do a tailgate party, maybe in a hotel parking lot.” “Yea, and if a crock pot or two needed to be plugged in that could be done in some of the rooms……” “We’d make it work one way or another!”
Then, someone (I don’t know who!) hit the jackpot!
The Bull Dog Café would let us use one side of their restaurant for our Pot Luck Supper!
Talk about Above and Beyond!
This is a restaurant, where they serve food and make a living serving that food, offering up this wonderful invite to the TrailChasers. We graciously and thankfully accepted such a generous offer. (Note to self; Oklahoma! What’s not to Love!)
Coming from out of state, I don’t know when I’ll next be back to Clayton, but rest assured, I will. And when I do I’ll be eating at the Bull Dog Café again, for more than the Pot Luck Supper on New Years Eve weekend.
The pot luck supper could not have worked out any better. There was plenty to eat, a variety to eat, and a room full of de-mudded folks who were certainly not strangers. I think it is fair to say everyone had a great time and would look forward to another opportunity to do it again.
While we brought our food in, we did purchase our drinks from the Bull Dog Café who provided us a waitress to keep us re-filled. She did a great job, and from what I can tell she was tipped very generously. My guess is collectively we started her New Year off on the right foot! And rightfully so.
