Oklahoma Trailchasers and United Four Wheel Drive Association presents:

Four Wheel Drive Safty Awareness Clinic

The Oklahoma Trailchasers Four Wheel Drive Club Inc. is proud to bring you the UFWDA 4WDA clinics. These classes are custom tailored to our area and taught by Club instructors. Whether you are a total novice or an experienced hard-core four-wheeler there is something for you in these classes. We also train experienced four wheelers to be Certified Chief Instructors. Come join us in the fun of safe off roading.

The United Four Wheel Drive Association (UFWDA) and its regional and state 4WD drive associations realized back in 1991 that there was a need for 4WD education clinics. The United Awareness program was developed in 1993. It has since trained thousands of students in the exciting family oriented sport of four wheel drive off highway adventure. These clinics are now a reality and have taught thousands of novice four wheelers on the components of their 4x4 vehicle, proper off-highway driving techniques, proper vehicle recovery, courtesies related to 4-wheeling, and accents environmental awareness by way of the Tread Lightly philosophy.

All United program instructors are experienced 4-wheelers and have to meet certain qualifications like:

  1. No DUI's.
  2. Have a minimum of three (3) years of off-highway driving experience.
  3. be certified in basic RED CROSS First Aid and CPR.
  4. be a member in good standing with OKFWDA and UFWDA associations.
  5. and attend the United Four Wheel Drive Association 4WD Instructors course.

The 4WD clinic will educate you on the basic components of a 4x4 vehicle, explain the benefits of the different type of off road tires and accessories, provide you with information on Off road recreation areas, learn vehicle recovery techniques. The course also covers the benefits of belonging to organized 4x4 clubs and Associations like Oklahoma Four Wheel Drive Association and United Four Wheel Drive Association and much more. However, most importantly, you'll learn how to drive your vehicle off-highway over hills, ravines, ruts, rocks, logs, through water holes, and stream crossings without doing damage to you, your vehicle, or the environment.

The 4WD clinic usually run from 9:00AM -- 6:00PM and consists of classroom and parking lot instruction in the morning, and in the afternoon, you'll be on the trail negotiating off-highway trail obstacles under the supervision of a UFWDA Instructor. On the trail, one instructor will be responsible for instructing and guiding three (3) student vehicles. Most clinics average 12 students, so we can provide lower student to instructor ratio.

If you have a four-wheel drive and always wanted to know how to drive off-highway the right way, then the United Four Wheel Drive 4WD Awareness Clinic is for you. The safety clinic is available to other 4WD clubs, government organizations, individuals, car dealerships, etc. For more information on a clinic coming up near you, check our events calendar or contact Phil Bargman.
